OXFORD, Miss. - Junior left-hander Drew Pomeranz was selected with the fifth overall pick by the Cleveland Indians in the 2010 MLB First Year Player Draft on Monday, making him the highest drafted player in the history of Ole Miss baseball.

The southpaw recently completed his junior season with the Rebel and was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Year to become the first Ole Miss pitcher to earn the honor since its inception in 2003.|

The PGA Tour in Madison, Mississippi | Come late summer the largest annual professional sporting event in Mississippi will be in town. Presently held at Annandale Country Club, this tournament brings in players and spectators from all parts of the world. Winners have included the late Payne Stewart, Fred Funk, Chad Campbell, Steve Lowrey, Luke Donald, Gene Sauers and others. Mississippi's Viking Classic is popular with the players. The southern hospitality ends the year long season with a positive note ! Touring Pro Jonathan Byrd (pictured above) spoke to an early morning group while enjoying some great cheese grits and eggs during a previous 'Classic tournament. His role model qualities and great golfing stories were inspiring and fun.

Devin Britton won the NCAA singles tennis championship for 2009. The Ole' Miss freshman is the youngest player to win since John McEnroe won in 1978. One of few players to defeat Devin in 2009 was Ryan Farlow of rival school Mississippi State, at the River Hills Tournament. Both men grew up in Mississippi. Devin also played in the finals of the US Open Juniors and in the Wimbledon Junior Tournament. There's some great tennis in Mississippi.

Mississippi: (NFL)
     Patrick Willis is one of the NFL's top players. (right) He's a leader the NFL in tackles. He even lead the NFL when he won Defensive Rookie of the Year Award ! Patrick played for Ole' Miss during his college years.
     Brett Favre, University of Southern Mississippi grad broke most of Dan Marino's NFL passing records. While playing for the Green Bay Packers, Sports Illustrated Awarded Brett their "Sportsman of the Year" award.
     Madison Central High graduate, Steven Gostkowsi is a leader in the NFL, kicking and scoring. He's a member of the great New England Patriots.

Swayze Waters is still looking to signing with the NFL. He came close with the Steelers last month. He also has talked with the Oakland Raiders and Vikings. He kicked for Jackson Prep and was a top college kicker at the University of Alabama Birmingham.

High School Baseball is the springtime warmup for the summer sport. Jackson Academy head coach Jay Powell has experience most schools would love to have in a head coach. Jay is a Lauderdale County native. He won the clincher for the Florida Marlins World Series Champs in 1997. His Major League career ended recently with the Atlanta Braves after a severe arm injury. The 2010 High School championship was won by Petal, the MHSAA Class 6A championship 15-7 over rival Madison at Trustmark Park
